Six New CQC Reports Rate ‘Good’ Overall
Posted on 10 December 2021
All our learning disability services are registered with, and regulated by, the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC is an independent regulator for health and social care in England. It monitors, inspects and regulates services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety. They publish what they find, including performance ratings, to help people choose care.
Inspection reports are coming in thick and fast. There have been six new inspections in the last couple of months – Alinora, Bradbury Court, Nyetimber Lodge, Sackville Gardens and Station Close are the latest services to be inspected. The services have all achieved a ‘Good’ rating overall and Sackville Gardens scored ‘Outstanding’ in the category of ‘Caring’, a fantastic achievement.
Excerpts from the inspection reports include:
“It is the best place that [they’ve] ever been, they treat [person] with respect and dignity and they really care.” (Relative of a client at Sackville Court)
“They’ve selected such an amazing bunch of staff, it can be hard to find the emotional intelligence needed to be a great carer, and they’ve done it so well. They see everyone’s potential and what they can do, then they think of ways the person can do it.” (Relative of a client at Sackville Court)
“They are the happiest they have ever been. I think it’s because the staff here get them, they know what makes them tick.” (Relative, Alinora Crescent)
“If I have any issues there are at least four people I could talk to including the seniors, deputy and the manager. We are well supported.” (Staff member, Alinora Crescent)
“[Person] has complex health needs and I am always impressed that the staff pick this up quickly and respond in the appropriately. They spot these changes even though they may not always be obvious to people that don’t know [person] well.” (Staff member, Lennox Court)
“I would describe them as amazing to be honest! The care and support they offer is fantastic. They are empathetic, encouraging, supportive, empowering, understanding and everything else that being a carer entails. I always tell everyone that we are so lucky to have [person] at Lennox Court, because [person] has the best life possible.” (Relative, Lennox Court)
“Staff are very attentive to any of [person’s] medical needs and are very switched-on to recognising if [person] might be unwell and always respond appropriately.” (Relative of a client at Nyetimber)
“[Person] has greatly benefited being at Nyteimber and is proud to have [person’s] own home. [Person] is clearly very happy and content with their accommodation and [person] feels safe and affirmed.” (Relative of a client at Nyetimber)
“I feel that one staff in particular is able to understand [person] very well, they’re [person’s] keyworker and can’t do enough for [them]” Another told us, “What makes the place special is the attitude of staff, they know when [person] needs more support than normal and are happy to provide it.” (Relative of a client at Station Close)
“One member of staff was able to help [person] to get vaccinated when no one else could, which was amazing. (Relative of a client at Station Close)
“I am always involved in big decisions, no worries we would be involved.” (Relative of a client at Bradbury Court)
“We always try to do what they would like to do it’s their life.” (Staff member at Bradbury Court)
Ella Arnardottir, Regional Manager, said:
“Most of our LD supported living services are now getting inspected for the first time as they have now been registered as a location in their own right with CQC (where they sat under a Southdown ‘umbrella’ before). We are so proud to see the quality of them validated by an external body. We always knew they were good, but it’s great to see this confirmed in the overwhelmingly GOOD outcomes. And of course Sackville’s ‘OUTSTANDING’ in Caring is fantastic.
I want to thank all our Managers and Staff that work so hard to make our services great, and also Carol Roberts, our CQC compliance manager, who has done excellent work in helping them get ready for their inspections. Well done all.”
