Thinking Well
About the service
Thinking Well is a specialist service in East Sussex which works with people with complex emotional needs/Personality Disorder. People with these difficulties can struggle with regulating emotions, managing relationships, impulsivity, and self-harm. The service operates from local Wellbeing Centres in Lewes, Eastbourne, and Bexhill.
Southdown provides the service (as part of the UOK East Sussex network) in collaboration with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Thinking Well has been co-produced with service users and aims to keep the ethos of co-production at the heart of the service.
What support is available?
- Dedicated community support delivered by a team of Recovery Specialists and Peer Workers.
- Clinical in-reach provided by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. This is a multi-disciplinary team of mental health nursing, occupational therapy, and psychology professionals.
- Joint working between the two teams to provide a holistic service to members as part of a therapeutic community environment.
Thinking Well is a group-based service and delivers social, creative, and psychoeducational groups as well as community activities. The service provides an evidence-based therapeutic intervention of mentalisation based therapy in a group format.
Am I eligible?
Thinking Well is for people aged 18+ in East Sussex who present with complex emotional needs/Personality Disorder (traits or formal diagnosis) in the moderate to severe range, with a high level of risk and/or disability.
How do I apply?
Referrals are via adult mental health services; we are unable to accept self-referrals. If you are under mental health services, such as the Assessment and Treatment Service, please speak to your team, or speak to your GP who can discuss with you about accessing mental health services.
