New ‘Health and Wellbeing service’ opens in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex
Posted on 1 December 2021
Launching from late November onwards, the Health and Wellbeing Service is a social prescribing service, working in partnership with GP practices across East Sussex and Brighton and Hove and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
The service will support people aged 18 or over who have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and psychosis, to improve their health and wellbeing following their free annual Physical Health Check (PHC) appointment. In East Sussex we will also support people to attend their PHC.
Southdown’s Mental Health & Wellbeing Advisors will work specifically with people following their Physical Health Check to support them to develop personalised and practical solutions to everyday issues. We will help people to explore services, groups and activities that support them to improve their health and emotional wellbeing.
Our Health & Wellbeing Advisors will offer face-to-face and remote support in a range of settings from GP practices, to community venues across Brighton & Hove and East Sussex.
Vikki Turpin, Health & Wellbeing Coordinator for the service said:
“The new service is an exciting and important step towards reducing health inequalities across Brighton, Hove and East Sussex for those who have been diagnosed with severe mental illness. We will work alongside Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, GP practices and the Primary Care Networks to target those who need support. We will encourage and guide people to access the brilliant services in their local areas. Our new team will be linking in with other relevant Southdown services over their induction period, and working closely with the social prescribers and Mental Health Support Coordinators.“
