Learning Disability Week 2024, ‘Do you see me?’
Posted on 17 June 2024
This year, the theme for Learning Disability Week (17-23 June) is ‘Do you see me?’ which is all about making sure the world hears what life is like if you, or someone you know, has a learning disability.
At Southdown, we asked colleagues and people we support through our learning disability services to share what this theme means to them, and how it relates to their experience of Southdown and what we do.
In the following videos our Chief Executive, Neil Blanchard, reflects on his own experience starting his career supporting people with learning disabilities as they moved from long-stay institutions into community settings. He also shares a personal message of thanks to our wonderful team across Sussex who support over 170 people with learning disabilities.
In addition, Sarah Pryce, our Practice Development Trainer, talks about the importance of recognising individual experiences, strengths and potential, and that everybody brings something valuable to our society.
We also spoke with Jennie, who lives in one of our learning disability services, about what matters to her and the theme of ‘being seen’.
We hope you enjoy watching the videos and have a wonderful Learning Disability Week!
