Finalist in National Learning Disability Awards!
Posted on 13 June 2024
We’re delighted to share that Sam Wilson, manager at our Nyetimber Lodge supported living service in Bognor Regis, has been nominated as a finalist in the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards 2024.
Sam was nominated by Sonia Hayward, a clinical nurse specialist at St Wilfrids Hospice in Chichester for the ‘Supporting People with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities’ award. Sonia shared that whilst providing palliative care for two clients from Nyetimber she was impressed by Sam’s ‘outstanding work in caring and advocating for [the clients]’. And that she ‘felt strongly that his incredible work should not go unnoticed’.
When we asked Sam how he was feeling about being a finalist, he said, “I’m still in shock that someone went out of their way to nominate me. I’m truly grateful and deeply touched by this level of appreciation and care. It’s incredibly humbling and an honour to have supported clients during the end of their lives. This nomination means the world to me.”
Anita Beverton, Regional Manager for our West Sussex learning disability services, added, “Were so proud of Sam’s achievement which is a fantastic testament to his commitment to providing the very best care for the people he supports. Well done to all the other finalists too; awards like these are a really fantastic way to shine a light on and celebrate excellence in the support for people with learning disabilities.”
With just days to go until the award winners are announced on Friday, 21st June at a gala dinner awards evening in Birmingham, our fingers are crossed for Sam… although he, along with the whole of our learning disability support team across Sussex, are already winners in our eyes.
